“This Time, It’s Personal” – Beautycounter
I’ve set my sites on a lofty goal and I need you to help me get there! Many of you know I am an advocate with Beautycounter to help get safer products into the hands of everyone. One of my favorite aspects of being part of this company is the advocacy work we are doing in Washington D.C. to get more health protective laws passed regarding personal care items and cosmetics.
A major law regulating cosmetics has not been passed since 1938, Beautycounter is actively working in Washington D.C. to change that. In March 2018 Beautycounter will be participating in a March Forth advocacy visit to Washington D.C. to urge the passing of the Personal Care Products Safety Act.
Why is this important? In the European Union, roughly 1,400 ingredients are banned or restricted from personal care items while in the US we lag very far behind with only 30 ingredients banned or restricted by the FDA. Nearly 80% of the ingredients in our products have never been tested for safety. Your skin is your biggest organ and what you put on it matters!
This is where your help comes in! My goal is to meet my sales goal to earn the chance to join fellow consultants in Washington D.C. and advocate for change. Only the top 2 earners (calculated on personal sales) will earn this opportunity to stand with consultants from every state and make our mission heard. Like I said, it is a lofty goal and I’m just getting started in this business so I’m counting on you all to help me achieve it! I have from now until January 31st to spread the mission of safer ingredients and I plan to share with everyone I know. Here are a few of the ways you can help!
Host a Social in January – this doesn’t have to be a huge party, just a few friends will do. We could even meet at a coffee shop or my place, whatever is convenient! You can also earn rewards like free products and a 50% discount.
Host a Virtual Social in December or January – life is busy, I get it! Maybe getting friends together in one place at the same time seems like the impossible. How about a virtual social? You invite your friends and I do most of the work! You’re still eligible for rewards!
Vote with your dollars – Try a few Beautycounter products and make the switch to safer ingredients. Every dollar spent gets me closer to being the top earner for the state. We also have a 60 day return period so if you decide you don’t like it or you want to try something else, that’s ok!
Call the capitol switchboard at 202-224.-121 and ask to be connected to one of your U.S. senators. Say which state you live in. The operator will connect you to one of your U.S. senators’ offices. Once you are connected, you will have the option to either leave a message for your senator or speak with a friendly staff member.
Simply let your senator know you are concerned about harmful ingredients in cosmetics and skin care products. Here is a sample script:
Hi, my name is ____________, and I’m calling to let the senator know that I’m very concerned about harmful ingredients found in cosmetics and skin care products, which currently are perfectly legal for companies to use. This is unacceptable, and I’m asking the senator to take action and update our cosmetic safety laws to better protect our health.
Call the capitol switchboard again and ask to be connected to your other U.S. senator
Text “BetterBeauty” to 52886 to ask all of your members of Congress for better beauty laws.
Lastly, SHARE! Share this post, share the mission! Make a difference!
